“Thank you for your service” is likely the most common phrase that veterans hear from civilians after coming home, but often the conversation ends soon after that point.
We want to be supportive, but don’t always know the best way to approach them about their experiences or problems they face after coming home.
This 1-hour weekly show is meant to help expand that discussion to help everyone understand the issues our returning soldiers face.
Host, Antonio Correa (U.S. Marine Corps) will shed light on what military families go though during base transfers, deployment, and return from combat. Antonio welcomes guests from various backgrounds to offer input on veterans issues, including: elected officials, government agency staff, and representatives of non-profit groups that help returning servicemen and women face the new obstacles ahead of them.
Soldiers may come home with mental or physical challenges but without the proper support and funding, many soldiers are falling through the cracks.
Budgets, politics and public awareness are all factors in the level of care our Vets receive after coming home. “Thank You for Your Service” is a chance for our military vets to share their voice with Chicago and the world. The show was created with the goal of increasing public understanding of ALL veterans issues and to act as a distribution point in providing critical information for veterans trying to navigate the benefits system TODAY!
This weekly conversation reveals what veterans face when they return…from the Veterans Administration, the communities and their families.
Antonio Correa fell in love with radio when he was 10 years old. Growing up in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago, where violence was rampant, did not afford many opportunities for Antonio to pursue his ambitions. In 1994 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1998. The Montgomery G.I. Bill and the Illinois Veterans Grant gave Antonio the opportunity to attend Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Radio and Television.
Since then Antonio Correa has worked at several radio stations in the Chicago market operated by Univision, Newsweb Radio, and CBS. At Univision, he had the privilege of working with one of Chicago’s leading Spanish language radio hosts, Javier Salas. Most of Antonio’s experience has been at WCPT AM & FM where he has worked as a Board Operator, Associate Producer and Co-Host for a variety of shows including Back on the Beat with Chicago political legend Dick Kay. Antonio’s worked as an Assistant Producer at WBBM Newsradio and has continued to take a leadership role in his work, acting as a Union Steward for SAG-AFTRA Chicago.
Antonio Correa’s career in the military and broadcasting makes him uniquely qualified to host this program. He has learned from firsthand experience that Veterans have no voice in the media; no one speaks for them. More importantly, no one gives them the opportunity to speak for themselves.
“Thank You for Your Service” is a radio show by Veterans, for Veterans. It’s Antonio Correa’s way of continuing to serve his country, his community, and his comrades. Semper Fi!
