WCPT'S COMMUNITY CALENDAR 


AfterSchool Matters

Now until July 8th

 

Chicago teen residents who are at least 14 years of age and entering or
currently enrolled in high school.

This summer, learn how to fly a flight simulator, train to become a
lifeguard, explore your writing style through poetry, enhance your business
skills and much more through an After School Matters apprenticeship or
internship. There are thousands of opportunities to
get involved with After School Matters this summer. There is no cost to
participate. Programs start July 1. Applications are available at

www.afterschoolmatters.org.

 Now until July 8th

 Programs will take place at 30 Chicago Public Schools high schools
and at more than 120 community organizations, Chicago Park District and
Chicago Public Library locations across the city, as well as Downtown at the
Gallery37 Center for the Arts.

 After School Matters provides program opportunities in a safe and
structured environment that allow Chicago teens to explore and develop their
talents while gaining critical skills for work, college and beyond,
and, it's fun!

Teen Mother Choices is a non-profit Christian organization devoted to the physical, emotional and spiritual growth of teen-age mothers and their young children. To date, TMC has provided services to more than 400 teen mothers, helping them become self-sufficient contributing members of society while giving their children the best possible start in life.

 All Women Marching for Hope is walking for those that done left too soon due to a domestic volience situation. We standing in gap for them n those that is going through and dont have no item where they can go or turn to. Another reason why we marching is that we are survivors of domestic volience and the CEO Denise Wolford of all women marching for hope is a 19 year survivor and we being doing this for 7 years now, this what God place in her heart to do, bc every second someone is going through a domestic crisis and we here to help them out there situation.

On Sunday June 9th over 300 animal lovers will come out to participate in Red Door Animal Shelter's annual Gimme Shelter! Walk for the Animals at beautiful Indian Bounday Park. This year we're celebrating 13 lucky years of rescuing homeless cats, dogs, and rabbits. Advance registration is only $20.00 and all walk participants receive a walk t-shirt, goodie bag, and a spiffy bandana for their dog. Hyde Park School of Dance (HPSD) celebrates 20 years of inspiring and training dancers, from young students to accomplished professionals, with "En Avant" (Moving Forward), featuring a world premiere by HPSD Founding Artistic Director August Tye, guest performances by members of the Joffrey Ballet, Joel Hall Dancers, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Paul Sanasardo Dancers and more. Performances are June 14 at 7 p.m. and June 15 at 2 p.m. at the Reva and David Logan Arts Center, 915 E. 60th St., Chicago. The Saturday performance also honors several individuals important to the history of HPSD and includes a VIP reception.

Feed My Starving Children

 
Packing meals for starving children around the world
 Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays

 Thanks to the support of Libertyville and the surrounding communities,
the dream of turning hunger into hope for many more of the world's
malnourished children has become a reality for hunger relief organization
Feed My Starving Children. The new meal-packing site at 742 E. Park Ave. in
Libertyville is now open!

The 18,000 square-foot facility, along with the existing Chicago area sites
in Schaumburg and Aurora, will enable FMSC to provide more than 70 million
meals annually to feed children in more than 70 countries. FMSC will also be
able to welcome 300,000 area volunteers to join the effort each year.

Please sign up to volunteer in Libertyville, or at the other Chicago area
sites in Schaumburg and Aurora. Families, church groups, school groups,
companies and local organizations are welcome.
